Menu photography that sells every item

A menu is a sales document, and photos are the part people actually look at. I shoot every item on your menu with the same light, angle and background so the printed menu, the digital board, the website ordering page and the delivery apps all look like one restaurant. Twenty years of menu work for Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego restaurants means the shot list, the pacing and the platform specs are already handled before I arrive.

Printed menus and digital menu boards

High-resolution hero shots for printed menus and table tents, plus wide horizontals sized for digital menu boards and drive-thru screens. Shot on clean backgrounds or on your own surfaces, whichever matches your brand.

DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub menu photos

Each dish is framed to crop cleanly to DoorDash’s 16:9, Uber Eats’ 5:4 and standard web ratios, delivered ready to upload. Consistent delivery-app photos are the fastest way to lift online orders. See delivery app food photography.

Online ordering and website menus

Web-ready files for Toast, Square, Owner.com, ChowNow and your own site, plus vertical crops for Instagram so the same shoot feeds your social feed.

Menu photography questions

What is menu photography?

Menu photography is a consistent set of photos of every item on your menu, shot with the same lighting, angle and background so the whole menu reads as one piece. It covers printed menus, digital menu boards, your website’s online ordering page and third-party delivery apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub.

Should menu photos be on a white background or in the restaurant?

Either works as long as every item is consistent. Clean white or neutral backgrounds read best at thumbnail size on delivery apps and are easiest to keep consistent as the menu changes. Shooting on your own tables with simple props adds warmth and brand feel for your website and social. Many restaurants use both, captured on the same day.

What size and aspect ratio do menu photos need to be?

DoorDash asks for 16:9 horizontals at 1400×800 pixels or larger; Uber Eats prefers 5:4 at 1000×800 or larger; Grubhub and most online-ordering platforms accept standard horizontals. I frame every dish with room to crop to each ratio and deliver web-ready files for each platform plus full-resolution originals for print.

How much does menu photography cost?

Flat rates start at $495 with unlimited images. A two-hour session covers a handful of items, a half day covers fifteen to twenty-five dishes and a full day covers an entire menu. There is no per-image fee and the same rates apply in Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego. See food photography pricing.

Can you shoot my whole menu in one day?

Yes. Most full menus of thirty to sixty items are shot in a single full day when the kitchen can plate on cue. We work from a shot list in menu order, I shoot tethered so you approve each item as it is captured, and the edited files are delivered within three business days.

Do you shoot menu photos in Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego?

Yes. I am based in Orange County and shoot menu photography across Los Angeles and San Diego at the same rates with no travel fee, on location at your restaurant with a full mobile lighting setup.
